Born in Hibbing, MN, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona with his parents and siblings in 1956. He married Marilyn Carmelita Kiel, eldest daughter of the late Urban and Alvina (Gress) Kiel in 1961, and she preceded him in death May 26, 1986.
Roland served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean conflict in the early 1960s.
He retired from the Maricopa County Highway Department after many years of employment. While married to Marilyn he volunteered at St. Louis King Catholic Church and Bourgade Catholic High School in Phoenix. He enjoyed NASCAR races at Phoenix International Raceway with his children, and travels via RV and cruise boats with his second wife, Lottie, who survives.
Also surviving are children, Scott (Mary), Cheryl, Rhonda and Terri (Richard), all of Arizona; his sister, Kathleen; Pat (who was married to his late brother, Gene); nephews, Gene and Michael; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Best Funeral Home in Peoria, Arizona.
The funeral was conducted at Best Funeral Home with full military services.
