He was united in marriage with Miss Mavilla Chappelear, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Chappelear. To this union were born eight children, Mrs. Flo Henry, of Glouster, Mrs. Ferne Drake, of Malta, Mrs. Nema Brill, of Columbus, Ray, of Malta, Sgt. Dale Murphey, of Camp Shelby, Mississippi, Donald, of Crooksville and Clarence and Pearl who are deceased; also one brother and one sister survive, Howard of Mountville and Mrs. Cora Vest of Glouster.
For a number of years, Mr. Murphey owned and resided on a farm near Rosseau, known as the Stephen Niceswanger place where his wife died 27 years ago. Most of his life since that time was spent in Homer township.
Funeral services were held at the Pisgah Methodist church, Union township, at 1:30, Sunday, September 24, with Mrs. Richardson of Wellston officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.
