Lynn "Lenny" Hewkin
(March 26, 1937 - June 22, 2011)

Lynn "Lenny" Hewkin, 74, of Steelville, MO passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at his home. He was born March 26, 1937 in St. Louis to William Silas Hewkin and Clella Greenwood Hewkin. On December 23, 1960 in Jennings, MO, he was united in marriage to Ruby Carol Cole who preceded him in death on June 9, 1995.

From the 1960's through the early 1980's, Lenny owned a grocery store in North St. Louis. During that same period of time and as a musician, he professionally played his guitar. In 1985, he and Carol moved back home to Steelville where he continued to be self-employed in real estate.

He attended the Change of Heart Church in Cuba. With his singing abilities, he always loved to sing and was part of the trio with his brother Jim Hewkin, his friend, Don Britton and accompanied on piano by his sister Darlene Cape.

Lenny is survived by his son Jason Hewkin of Steelville, MO; two sisters, Darlene Cape and husband Jim of Cuba, MO and Colleen Woolbright and husband Glen of Manchester, MO; three sister-in-laws, June Hewkin of St. Louis, MO, Leora Hewkin of Davisville, MO and Marilyn Hewkin of Cuba, MO; and brother-in-law, Jay Garms of Steelville, MO; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol Hewkin; brothers, Buster Hewkin and wife Vera, Donald Hewkin, Rodney Hewkin, Homer Hewkin and Jim Hewkin; sisters, Eloise Garms and Naomi Boll and husband Walter.

Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Pastor Terry Mahurin officiating. Memories were shared by Joanee Mahurin and Darlene Cape. Special music of "If I Can Help Somebody" was sung by Don Britton and accompanied on piano by Darlene Cape. A CD of special music was played of songs sung by Lenny Hewkin, Jim Hewkin and Don Britton accompanied on piano by Darlene Cape.

Committal prayer and burial were in the Turnbough Cemetery at Davisville, Missouri.

Honored to be casket bearers were Jason Hewkin, Michael Hewkin, Mark Hewkin, Tommy Hewkin, Brian Jeffries and Aaron Owens.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
