Amelia H. Flygare Dies at Afton, Buried in Ogden
OGDEN, Utah,--Mrs Amelia H. Flygare, 82, 961 25th St. Ogden died Monday morning at the Valleon Lodge in Afton, Wyo., operated by her two sons, Ralph and James Flygare.
During most of her life she had been very active in civic, church and political affairs both in Ogden and Weber County.
She had been visiting with her sons in Afton for a considerable period prior to her death.
Mrs Flygare was born Aug 11, 1866 in Brigham City. a daughter of Mr and Mrs James Hansen. She was educated in the Brigham City schools
Married in 1887
On Jan 12, 1887, she was married to Chris Flygare in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They came to Ogden where he died several years ago.
As a founder and organizer of the Weber county Daughters of Utah Pioneers, she served in the first organization as a counselor with Mrs Bertha Eccles from 1916 to 1918. She was elected president of the organization in 1918 and served until 1920. For many years she was also a member of the Central company of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She was also an organizer of the Girl Scouts in Ogden and an early organizer and member of the Service Star legion. Both in Ogden and in the state she was active in auxiliary veteran organizations. She had four sons who served with the U.S, armed forces during World War I.
Mrs Flygare was very active in the Democratic party and was Weber county chairman of the women's organization.
She was the first president of the Eighteenth ward Relief Society, a member of the Weber stake Young Women's Mutual Improvement Assn. board, and president of the board for many years. She was also president of the Y.W.M.I.A. of the Ogden ward. For many years she was an officer and active in the Relief Society organizations of the area.
Toured Europe in '11
In 1911 she was a member of an Ogden party which toured Europe. Included in the party were her husband and John Watson and his wife, another prominent couple of the city.
Of her six sons and three daughters, the following survive; Lester James Flygare and Ralph W. Flygare, Afton; Edward R. Flygare, Jackson, Wyo.; Mrs Lillian A. Coray, Murfreesboro, Ark,; and Mrs Jennie M. Coleman, Ogden.
The following brothers and sisters also survive; Mrs Lona Peterson, Mrs Hilda Hansen and David Hansen, Salt Lake City, Mrs Frieda Rampton, Bountiful, Mrs Martha Cornia and Isaac Hansen Brigham City; Mrs Lilly Hansen, Tacoma, Wash.; and Hirum Hansen Long Beach California.
Survivors also include 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. at Larkin and Sons Funeral Chapel by Austin H. Shaw, former bishop of the Fifth Ward.
Burial was in the Ogden City Cemetery.
