Richard Perry Caughie 71, former farmer and a retired city employee, died Jan. 26, 1987 at a local nursing center from respiratory complications.

He was born Dec.4, 1915 at Idaho Falls, son of Harrison and Rachel Nelson Caughie. He attended schools here and spent most of his life here. He married Gwendola M. Mangum July 15, 1934, at Idaho Falls. They were later divorced.

He farmed in the New Sweden - Osgood area until 1945. That year he started working for the Idaho Falls Water Department. He retired from the city in 1969. He was a member of the LDS Church and the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors are a son, Richard Caughie Jr. of Seattle; three daughters Mrs. Larry (Pat) Burgess, Mrs. William (Betty) Brown and Norma Schuldt all of Idaho Falls; two brothers Floyd Caughie of Basalt, Idaho and Delbert Caughie of Tulsa, Okla., three sisters, Idella Hurt and Mrs. Aldon (Elma) Colby both of Idaho Falls and Mrs. James (Delores) Sykes of White City, Ore. 17 Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Funeral Services will be Thursday at 1:00 pm in the Morninglight Chapel of Buck-Sullivan Funeral Home with Bishop Ralph Jenkins officiating. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the services Thursday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
