Mrs. Eliza Pope was born June 15th, 1851 in Saxony, Germany and came to America with her parents in 1854 to Racine County, Wisconsin. The family lived at Racine for five years, removing at the end of that time to Sparta, Wisconsin where they have since resided. Her death occurred on Monday, October 23, 1922. On November 3, 1873 she was united in marriage to Virgil P. Pope wheo survives her. They had seven children: Edward Pope who died at the age of four, Cyrus Pope who resides in Taylor, North Dakota, Mrs. Freelove Monks who lives in South Dakota, Mrs. Clarinda Jenkins who preceded her mother in death, Mrs. Liddia Vian of Sparta, Elmer Pope of Cloquet, Minnesota, and Virgil C. Pope of Sparta. She is also mourned by two brothers, John Goethe and Frank Goethe, and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Trommas, Mrs. Millie Tappen, and Mrs. Mary Carter.
Funderal services were held from her late residence on South K Street Rev. J. S. Morris of the Congregational church officiating. Intermant in Woodlawn Cemetery.
