Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on March 14, 1902 for his actions as a private with Company F, 30th Infantry, US Volunteers, US Army, on August 23, 1900, near Sariaya, Luzon, Philippine Islands. He had previously served in the Spanish-American War. His Medal of Honor citation simply reads: "Singlehanded he defended a disabled comrade against a greatly superior force of the enemy."
