Mary, called "Molly" by her friends, was born April 27, 1851, in Marshall Co., Indiana, daughter of John McAdams and Mary America, both born in Vir. She died Nov. 27, 1935, in Hillsdale, aged 84 years and 7 months and was buried beside the remains of her husband in Wayside Cemetery.

On May 6, 1875 Mary married Isaac Barton near Bourbon, Marshall Co., Ind. Isaac was born Dec. 12, 1844, at Ruthledge, Granger Co., Tenn., son of James Barton and Nancy Florey, also born in that state. He died Fe. 5, 1926 in Hillsdale, aged 81 years, 1 month and 23 days, and was buried in Wayside Cemetery at Barron. The beautiful gravestone of red granite for Isaac and his wife is inscribed "Barton Father Isaac Dec.12, 1844 Feb. 5, 1926 Mother Mary Apr. 27, 1851 Nov. 27, 1935."

Their children, of whom the first two were born in Ind. and rest in Wisconsin, were:

Bertha A., b. 24 Feb 1876
Sylvanus A., b. 26 Oct 1878
Oriel Frank P., b. 27 Nov 1884
William H., b. 17 Sep 1886
Winnie B. Barton, b. 10 Jun 1897

This was Mary's second marriage. Her first marriage to William Godfrey, ended in divorce April 21, 1871, in Marshall County, Ind. William later died by a falling tree in December 1878*. Mary was a sister of Sylvanus McAdams, a Civil War Veteran, who is also buried in Wayside Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Barton.

Mary McAdams was born in Marshall county, Indian, on April 27, 1851, and died Nov. 27, 1935, at the age of 84 years and seven months.

She was married to Isaac Barton, a Civil war veteran, at Plymouth, Ind., May 6, 1875. He preceded her in death nine years ago. They came to Barron county in 1881 and most of their life was spent in and west of Hillsdale with the exception of two years at Rice Lake.

Mrs. Barton united with the Church of the Brethren early in life and since then her devotion to the church and her steadfast Christian character had marked her as deeply religious woman. Her spirit of love and helpfulness extended outside her home and many found her a source of help and comfort.

She leaves to mourn, one sister, one daughter, one adopted daughter, 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. All the children were at the funeral which was held Sunday at the Baptist church at Hillsdale. The Rev. Alexander McEathron, a former pastor at Hillsdale and friend of the deceased, officiated. Kennard and Lela Bishop of Hillsdale, and Mesdames Vine and Bartlett, members of the Brethren church at Rice Lake, sang Gospel hymns. Interment was at Wayside cemetery at Barron.
