Calvin Thurman Chasteen, 82, of Moore, Oklahoma, slipped into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 2, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Shaffer officiating, assisted by the Rev. William Moore. Interment will follow at Rock Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
He was born November 25, 1928 in Duncan to James Franklin and Mattie Elizabeth (Shultz) Chasteen. He was the third of eight children.
He was employed by Halliburton Services in the material handling department, retiring in 1973. During that time he served two years in the United States Army at the time of the Korean war, serving 16 months in Germany. Upon his retirement he formed his own company (Chasteen Equip. & Service Co) all oil-field related. After selling his business and moving back to Oklahoma he was employed as Building Engineer at Midwest City High School, retiring in 1999.
On Sept. 20, 1952 he married Bette Jean (nee Rogers). To that union was born three children: Kathy, Chris and Renae.
Thurman was a Christian man with strong Christian values and a life-long member of the Assembly of God church. He was deeply loved by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Bette, of 58 years, daughter Kathryn LaJean Harbison and husband Jim, of Oklahoma City, son Christopher Thurman Chasteen and wife Cindy of Elverta, Calif., daughter Sonya Renae Orona and husband Oscar of Springdale, Ark., seven grandchildren: Heather Fink, Kristen Blunt, Cammi Moseley, Scott Chasteen, Michael Orona, Adriane Butler, Gabrielle Orona, two step grandchildren: Steve Harbison and Bryan Harbison, four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Alvie Chasteen and wife Stella of Duncan, Charles Chasteen and wife Fran of Oklahoma City, four sisters Velma Ensminger of Duncan, Lilly Shuey and husband Bob of Whitesboro, Texas, Lois Bussey of Terral, Okla. and Melba Roberts of Pace, Florida and a host of nieces and nephews, family and many friends from across the nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Arnold.

Pallbearers will be: Butch Swanson, Daryle Ensminger, Rick Chasteen, Roger Chasteen, Ronnie Rawson and Dennis Wheeler.
