Richard N. (Dick and Uncle Richie) Fellinger, 79, of Dunkirk died Thursday (March 10, 2011) after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 11, 1931 in Hanover, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred and Nellie Weeks Fellinger and husband of the late M. Pauline Fellinger.
From 1950 to 1954, Richard served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman where he was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, earning a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. From 1957 until 1994, Richard was a heavy equipment operator on the NYS Thruway out of Silver Creek, NY.
Richard enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, listening to Bluegrass in his garage with friends and family, tending to his garden and flowers and spending time with his grandchildren. Additionally, he was a lifelong member of the Conservation Club of Dunkirk. Richards final days were spent in the angelic compassionate care of the Webster Comfort Care of Webster, NY.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Lazzaro (son-in-law Daniel and grandchildren Connor and Tess), all of Webster, NY; sons Richard Fellinger, Jeffrey Fellinger (granddaughter Jenna), all of Sarasota, Fla.; stepson Raymond Totaro of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister Mary Ann Polowy of Mt. Dora, Fla.; along with many close friends and family.
Richard was predeceased by brothers Robert, Paul, Thomas, Raymond and Edwin; sisters Helen Wisniewski, Eleanor Palmer, Harriet Elias and Rita Fellinger; and an infant son, Alfred Scott Fellinger.
