Arthur was born on Sept. 8, 1927, the son of Charles and Katie DeYoung. On March 12, 1954, he married Gertrude Smedema. Together they were blessed with 28 wonderful years raising their six children in the Friesland area. After Gertrude’s passing, Arthur met Doloris Schreiber and they were later married on Dec. 25, 1983, and became a blended family of 11.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army in his younger years. After the service he co-owned DeYoung Brothers Builders with his brothers, Newton and John. He had an amazing skill with his hands and could build anything, and really enjoyed doing so. Art spent a lot of his free time hunting and going for walks in the woods behind his house. He was an avid airplane enthusiast and loved to give rides in his yellow Piper Cub. Art was also very involved in his church. He had a strong faith which showed no matter where he was. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed every minute of having his family around.
Arthur is survived by his wife Doloris; children Laurie (Scott) Meyer of Milton, LouAnn DeYoung and Joe Kok of Fox Lake, Lisa (Don) Karst of Burnett, Steven (Rochelyn) DeYoung of Portage, Phillip (Clarissa) DeYoung of Allenton, Valerie (Michael) Marshall of Beaver Dam, Paul (Sara) Premus of Amherst, Edward (Jeanna) Premus of Colorado, and Rebecca Premus of Colorado; his grandchildren Sabrina (Mike) Hoeft, Emma (Lee) Mueller, Caleb DeYoung, Colin DeYoung, Samantha DeYoung, Lon DeYoung, Isaac Premus, Nicole Premus, Tasha and Nick Niemi, Sam and Mary Kok; his great-grandchildren Arizona, Brady, Halie and Parker Hoeft, Abigail, Oliver and Adelaide Niemi, Joseph and Ella Kok; sisters Jeanette Derksen, Frieda (Wyman) VandeZande, Hilda (Donald) DeVries; sister-in-law Jessie DeYoung; brother-in-law Dave Lemmenes; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
