In 1847, Hiram hoped to find a better life for his wife and children. He followed his brother Thomas to Texas. For the next 2 years Hiram traveled between Carroll Co., Tennessee and Texas. In December 1849, he purchased land in Fannin County, TX. Early the next year, Hiram moved his family there.
In 1852, Hiram moved one last time to a farm outside of Farmersville, TX. His home was located on the S. Owens survey (Southeast of Farmersville, on the South side of the current Texas HWY 380).
Hiram passed away in 1873 and was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth and 5 children.
