Caroline "Carrie" Pillard was born on 19 Oct 1861 in Troy, New York to Quebec, Canada born parents Louis Norbert Pillard (1824-1896) and Philomene Poirier (1837-1903). She was one of 13 children born to these parents who settled in New York state.

In November 1884, Carrie married England born Edward Dakin (1858-aft 1930). They had 7 children, 4 who lived to adulthood. By 1898, Carrie and Edward divorced. Edward married a second wife Theresa and had 2 daughters. Carrie married German born Phillip Schlarb (1863-1934) on 11 Feb 1903. In the 1910 Census Phillip and Carrie were living in South Dakota; in the 1920 Census they were living in Clark, Lewis County, WA; and in the 1930 Census they were living in Centralia, Lewis County.

Both Caroline and Phillip are buried in the Old Tacoma Cemetery aka Tacoma Cemetery, TC SEC 3 L-B-S-71-D-3 - Graves 5 and 4 respectively.

Her son Norman A. Dakin F.A.G. Memorial #33515627 is buried in Joyville Cemetery in Washington County, Maine with his wife Julia Rebecca Joy Dakin F.A.G. Memorial #33515639
