Bertha Kibbel was born on May 16, 1915 in Hettinger, ND to Rudolph and Mary (Treichel) Haas. On March 7, 1934 she married Howard Kibbel. Together they farmed southeast of Mott, ND. They had nine children and she worked hard both in the house and on the farm. They moved into Mott in 1974, where she cooked for the Senior Center Nutrition program. In February 2010, she moved to the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen to be close to her family.

Bertha was known for her ability to cook a meal for several people without much effort. Homemade bread and goodies were always ready to serve if you stopped by. She always prided herself in the fact that she never bought a loaf of bread at the store. When she was not baking she was at her sewing machine making quilts, stuffed teddy bears, or anything else that needed to be sewn and then giving them away. A large garden was always planted in the spring and in the summer she was busy canning. Throughout her life she enjoyed writing letters and she would daily take letters out to be mailed to family and friends.

Bertha was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Mott, ND where she served funerals, quilted and other various activities. She was also a member of the American Legion and a long time 4H leader.

Bertha passed away June 29, 2011 at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen with her family at her side following a massive stroke. This amazingly strong woman will be missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Millie (Evan) Harris, Aberdeen, SD and Priscilla Linghor, Williston, ND; son-in-law, Roger Iverson, Tucson, AZ; daughter-in-law, Karen Kibbel, Mott, ND; brothers, Clifford (Agnes) Haas, Aberdeen, SD, Albert (Marie) Haas, Glendive, MT; sisters, Clara Milner, Manville, NJ and Lorine Klein, Culver, OR; 12 grandchildren, Kathy Harris, Aberdeen, SD, Barb (Dave) Crawford, Aberdeen, SD, Kevin (Jeanie) Harris, Fruitland, ID, Bruce Harris, Anchorage, AK, Melissa (Tillman) Bauldwin, Omaha, NE, Matthew Linghor, Williston, ND, Jeremy (Courtney) Linghor, Argusville, ND, Bryce (Susie) Kibbel, Ankeny, IA, Eric (Kim Kibbel), Mott, ND, Carrie (Greg) Safian, Whittier, CA, Tarrie Sillert, Pamona, CA and Michael Iverson, Tuscon, AZ; 25 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
