Loris, S.C. - Mrs. Rebecca Cook Horton, age 88, of Loris, died Sunday evening (Sept. 14, 2003) at her home.

Born in Taxahaw, Lancaster County, S.C., on March 21, 1915, Mrs. Horton was the daughter of the late Joseph Crawford Cook and the late Martha Massey Cook. Mrs. Horton graduated from Flat Creek High School, and was a 1936 graduate of Winthrop College. She accepted a teaching position in Loris, S.C., where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Horton assisted her husband in the operation of the Lewis Horton Supply Company. She was a homemaker, and a lifetime member of the Loris First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Morgan Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. S.F. Horton of Loris, S.C.; one son, Lewis S. Horton and wife Frances of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one daughter, Jean Horton Locke and husband Joel of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two sisters, Dorothy Rufenacht of Sharon Pennsylvania, and Evelyn Jones of Charleston, S.C.; and eight grandchildren, Sarah Owen and husband Chip, David Horton, Leslie Craft, and husband Blount, John Horton Locke and wife Tara, Stephen Locke and wife Lauren, Michael Locke, Gregory Horton and wife Jennifer, and Joseph Horton and wife Regan. Mrs. Horton was also survived by eight very special great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Horton was predeceased by one son, S. Francis Horton, Jr. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., from the Loris First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Officiating will be the Rev. Drew Jackson. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. S.F. Horton on East Main St. in Loris, S.C. Those who wish may make memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Coastal Carolina SC Chapter, PO Box 80459, Charleston, SC 29416-0459, or the Loris First Baptist Church Building Fund, 3117 Main St., Loris, SC 29569.
