James Ralph Cook was unable to serve in the military due to kidney disease but he was a civilian flight instructor for many military pilots. He married Laveta Maudine Long from Weatherford, Texas. He later moved to Walterboro, SC to help his half-brother Henry Belk Cook Sr estabish the Ritz and Cook Theaters. He was active in Bethel Prebyterian Church. Ralph and Laveta had two children, James Wesley Cook born 1950 and John Ralph Cook born 1952.
