GROOM - Pat Ashford, 83, died Monday, June 27, 2011.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Groom with the Revs. Jonathan Land and Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will be in Groom Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Doris Patricia Poynor Ashford was born in Bowie to Emmett David Poynor and Mary Julia Durham Poynor on July 12, 1927. She graduated from Lakeview High School in Lakeview.

She married Daniel Weldon Ashford Sr. on Jan. 10, 1948, in Memphis. She had worked for the city of Groom as a city secretary for 15 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Tole Painters Association of America, Golden Spread Tole Painters Association and a member of Groom's Red Hat Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Connie Stephenson.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Ashford of Groom; two daughters, Mary Sue Ashford Lyles and husband Don and Patti Lyn Ashford McLaughlin and husband Forrest, all of Groom; two sons, Daniel Weldon Ashford and wife Cathy of Amarillo and Jerry David Ashford and wife Pam of Groom; a brother, Emmett Poynor of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Julie Lyles, Darcee Thompson and husband Paul, Kerry Ashford and wife Charissa, Paul McLaughlin and wife Renee, all of Amarillo, Aimee Bussard and husband James of Dumas, Rebecca Langford and husband Troy of Tulsa, Okla., Scott McLaughlin and wife Kaylynn of Panhandle, and Nick Ashford and wife Cara, Tami Keesee and husband Jerod and Cassie Ashford, all of Groom; and 13 great-grandchildren, Therron Thompson, K'Leigh Thornton, Elijah Ashford, Grant Thompson, Hunter Bussard, Haley McLaughlin, Ethan Thompson, Chris McLaughlin, Ainsley Bussard, Cambree Thompson, Caden McLaughlin, Maci Keesee, and Westen Ashford.

The family suggests memorials be to Olivia's Angels, in care of BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or First Baptist Church of Groom Building Fund, 407 E. First St., Groom, TX 79039.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
