Emmett D. Poynor, 86 of Amarillo passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016.

Memorial services are Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Southwest Church of Christ with Gene Shelburne, Major Tony King and Dr. Paul Matney officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Emmett was born August 27, 1929 in Bowie, Texas to parents Emmett and Mary Julia Poynor. In 1950, he married Laverne Farrar. After 43 years of service, Emmett retired from Pantex in 1994. On August 5, 2000 Emmett married Mary King of Amarillo.

Emmett loved the Lord and dedicated his life to serving others. He was on the board of the Maverick Club, Amarillo Christian Schools, Amarillo Economic Development, and dedicated much of his time working with Gideon’s International and loved distributing bibles to young people. Emmett enjoyed retirement and if you wanted to find him, all you had to do was go to the Donut Stop, Hud’s or Henry D’s and there he sat laughing and cutting up with his retirement buddies.

Emmett is survived by wife Mary King Poynor and four children; Carol Jones and her husband Robert, Mike Poynor and his wife Mary, Dee Ann Poynor all of Amarillo and a stepson Major Tony King and wife Melinda of Mount Olive, North Carolina; Grandchildren: Trent & Katy Jones, Keith & Jackie Jones, David & Tracie Poynor and Matthew Poynor; four step-grandchildren: Katrina & Colin Law, Shelby & Clayton Reamer, Bailey King and Becca King; Great Grandchildren: Jordyn, Meghan, Brecken, Emilie, Macie, Libbie, Lillie, Cowboy, Ranger and Brinley; Great-Great Grandchildren: Drazon, Sabra and Zoeey.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Christian Relief Fund, Anna Street Church of Christ of Amarillo, St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Gideon International.
