Henry spent his entire life in Saline County, Nebraska. He was the 5th of 13 children born to Henry and Marie (Haake) Bartels. He married Margaret Schafer on 20 Nov 1921 at Zion Lutheran Church south of Tobias; there were no children.

BARTELS
TOBIAS--Henry Bartels, 80, rural Tobias, died Tuesday, Dec. 30 in a Lincoln hospital. Born, March 23, 1895, near Tobias. Retired farmer. Survivors: brothers, John of Topeka, Kan., Paul, Emil, Theodore and Edwin, all of Tobias; sister, Hattie Bartels of Tobias. Preceded in death by wife, Margaret; brothers, Herman, Ernest [sic-Ernst], Fred and two infant twin brothers; sister, Hulda Obernueller [sic-Obermueller].
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, the Rev. E.E. Griesse. Burial: Church Cemetery. Body in state at Zajicek Funeral Home, Western, from noon Thursday until 11 a.m. Saturday and then at the church until of service. Memorial to the church. Zajicek Funeral Home, Western, in charge.
