Diane Wheeler, 61, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Pierce County on September 2, 1949 to the late James E. and Lois Brown Strickland and has been a resident of Valdosta for over 40 years. She worked with the Langdale Ford Company for 17 years and she was a member of Westside Baptist Church. In her youth, she enjoyed hunting and fishing and in recent years she loved spending time with her granddaughters and making cakes and candy.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and John Mahon of Valdosta and Jodi and Michael Anderson of Tampa, Florida; two granddaughters, Hailey and Mackenzie Mahon of Valdosta; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Glenn O'Neal and two nephews, Jimmy and Nick O'Neal all of Valdosta; special friends, Audrey Guess, Mary Reames and Opal Tyler; a faithful friend and canine companion, Sammie. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Elwood Wheeler, III.

A graveside service for Diane Wheeler will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Redland Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Ernie Jones and Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. The committal will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
