David E. Meyer, aged nearly 51, died last Saturday, Sept. 1, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Herb Schoenfeld, sheriff of Thayer county and acting coroner. He was discovered in his garage just over the line in Thayer county with a wound from a .22 caliber rifle.
Meyer was arrested July 28, by the Thayer county sheriff following a dispute with Henry G. Itzen in which the latter's chest was pierced three times with a pitchfork.
The preliminary hearing of Meyer was set for Sept. 7.
David Ernest Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer, was born December 2, 1900, near Plymouth, Nebr., where he was baptized in the Lutheran faith.
In 1910 the family moved to near Gladstone, Nebr., where he attended the parochial school of the Trinity Lutheran church and was confirmed on April 2, 1915, remaining an active member of the church.
On February 15, 1928, he married Pauline Wiegert of Powell, Nebr., and to them four children were born. After their marriage the couple moved to the present family home three miles west of Gladstone, where they have since resided.
Surviving are his wife and four children, Loretta, Alvin, Louis and Victor Meyer, all of the home, and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Knapper of Gilead, and Mrs. Emil Schoen of Oxford, Nebr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Trunity Lutheran church, west of Gladstone, with the pastor, Rev. A. P. Bruenger, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Laipply service.
