Dr. John F. DuVall, 65 years old, died of apoplexy Saturday afternoon at his home, 1408 Garfield Avenue. Doctor DuVall had practiced here since 1903, when he lost his home in Armourdale and $7,500 in cash in the flood. The home had been occupied only one night. The money had been drawn from the bank to make a payment on property purchased by the doctor on Garfield Avenue. When he reached his office after the flood the cigar box containing the money had been washed away.
Doctor DuVall was born in Waynesburg, Pa. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was married to Miss Sadie A. Berryhill at Waynesburg at the close of the war. After graduating in medicine ten years later he moved to Des Moines, Ia., where he practiced twenty years.
Besides the widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary Hoard and Mrs. Grace Kennedy, both of this city; Mrs. Nannie McIntyre of Des Moines, Ia., and a brother, former Senator G. H. DuVall of West Virginia. Funeral services, under auspices of the Summunduwat Lodge No. 3, I. O. O. F., will be at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
