Her obituary was published in the February 20, 1919 edition of the Waynesburg Republican:
"Mrs. Mary Eleanor Hunnell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Kimbel, Franklin street, Sunday February 16, of paralysis. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Duvall and was born near Bluff, Pa. She was united in marriage in 1863 to Jacob Hunnell, who died nineteen years ago. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Kimbel and John Hunnell, of Waynesburg; Matthias Hunnell, of Bristoria; Morgan Hunnell, of East Waynesburg; Newton Hunnell, of Braddock; and Garner Hunnell, of Morgantown, W. Va. One brother, Rev. G. H. Duvall, Parkersburg, W. Va., and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Thomas, Parkersburg, W. Va., and Mrs. Rhoda Hewitt, of Claysville, also survive. Mrs. Hunnell was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church at Mt. Zion. Short funeral services were held at the Kimbel home Wednesday morning after which the remains were taken to Bluff, where further services were held in Mt. Zion church, by Rev. J. P. Allison. Interment in Mt. Zion cemetery."
