He was commissioned Captain, Co. A, Strasburg Greys, 10th Virginia Infantry, Stonewall Brigade, 18 APR 1861. He was promoted to Major on 8 MAY 1862. He was wounded at 2nd Manassas. He led his regiment at the battle of Cedar Run. Killed at the Battle of Chancellorsville. He was also a veteran of the Mexican War. He married Mary Jane GRABILL, 6 DEC 1853. He was a farmer as well as a soldier in Strasburg, VA.
