William "Bill" Lloyd Pugmire, 88, passed away at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital on Wednesday evening, June 15, 2011.

Bill was born on December 4, 1922 in St. Charles, the son of Lamont and Myrtle Pugmire. After graduating from Fielding High School in Paris, he served in the US Army, and was stationed in Camp Crowder in Missouri. Following his return home in 1946, he met his bride to be LuWana Pope. They were married on January 7, 1947, in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in St. Charles.

Bill worked various jobs including working at the St. Charles Creamery and helping on the family farm. In January 1959 Bill decided to go into barbering. He attended Barber College in Salt Lake City, driving home on the weekends. They moved to Brigham City, living there for three years while Bill worked as a barber. After that short absence, they moved back to St. Charles and Bill continued working as a barber in Montpelier, then in Paris.

Ranching was Bill's passion, which he pursued early and continued to enjoy throughout his life. A favorite pastime was visiting with friends, neighbors, and family. He also enjoyed the time spent singing with "The Men of the Valley" and in the church choir. He loved playing Rummy with LuWana (and the grandkids) – almost as much as he enjoyed her homemade bread and donuts.

Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including teaching primary, ward and stake financial clerk, and High Priest's secretary. One of his favorite assignments was serving with LuWana as a tour guide at the Paris Tabernacle.

Bill is survived by LuWana, his bride of 64 years, daughter, Janis (Dennis) Hymas of Farmington, Utah, sons, Arnell and Lloyd (Ellen) of St. Charles. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Above all else, he enjoyed the times when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. Also surviving him are siblings Junior Pugmire of St. Charles, Averill Pugmire of San Diego, Darlene King of West Point, Utah, Nadine Sprouse of Garden City, and Jaren Pugmire of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Mariam, sister, Elgie Garner, and grandson, Darren Hymas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24 at 1 p.m. at the St. Charles Ward. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12:45 at the church. There will be a night visitation from 6 – 8 p.m. at Matthews Mortuary on Thursday June 23. Interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery.
