J. C. Albertoni A Suicide At Two Rock Ranch
(Second Article posted debunks his suicide)

"Late on Wednesday evening news was received here that J. C. Albertoni, who conducts the Freeman ranch at the foot of Wiegand hill, had committed suicide. The remains were found in the kitchen in the farm house by Roscoe Zanetti who resided on the ranch with the deceased.

About 3:45 o’clock Zanetti, who was at work in the yard some distance from the house heard the report of a gunshot. He paid little attention to the sound as Albertoni had previously stated that he was going to kill a chicken for supper. A few minutes had elapsed when a second shot rang out but Zanetti did not become alarmed as he thought Albertoni missed his aim and had shot again to kill the bird.

About a half hour afterward Zanetti entered the house to get tobacco and was horrified to find the body of his companion lying on the kitchen floor. Upon examination Mr. Zanetti found that the deceased was still breathing, but he was beyond all human aid and died shortly afterward.

Coroner Blackburn was at once notified and took charge of the remains which were brought to his office in this city.

The deceased and Zanetti were the only persons on the ranch at the time of the tragedy and there was no witnesses to the suicide, consequently Coroner Blackburn made a rigid investigation which is necessary in a case of this nature.

Albertoni was shot through the heart at close range which might have been accidental as his relatives state that he had never hinted at self destruction and on Wednesday he was unusually happy. He had no trouble which would lead up to an act of that kind, and the affair is shrouded in mystery.

Mr. Albertoni was born in Switzerland and was aged forty-two years. He was a dairyman and had resided at the place of his death for the last four months. California had been his home for the last twenty years. Surviving the deceased is his sister, Mrs. R. Rossi and a number of relatives in the old country.

At the time of going to press Coroner Blackburn, Assistant District Attorney Hoyle, Deputy Sheriff McIntosh and Court Reporter Scott were at the ranch investigating and the time of the inquest will be announced with they return."
