DOMINIC VIGLIOTTI DIES; BASS PLAYER, BACKUP SINGER

Dominic Vigliotti, 43, an electric bass player and backup singer who had performed with several musical groups in the Washington area, died of cancer May 29 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

Mr. Vigliotti, a former resident of Laurel, had lived in Charlottesville for about three years. He had played most recently with the Ian Gilliam Blues Trio and the Believers.

Mr. Vigliotti was born in Osaka, Japan, and moved to the Washington area as a child. He graduated from Laurel High School.

During the 1970s, he was manager of Hi-Gear Tire & Auto in Laurel and a salesman in the auto parts department of Montgomery Ward in Laurel. Later he was manager of Veneman Music stores in Greenbelt and Rockville, an installer of two-way radios in motor vehicles, a service adviser in the automobile department of Montgomery Ward in Wheaton and a computer repair technician at Continental Resources in Gaithersburg.

Since moving to Charlottesville, he had worked in the technical department of Crutchfield Corp., an electronic mail order firm.

Since his high school days, Mr. Vigliotti had played with a variety of rock-and-roll, rhythm-and-blues, jazz, funk, acoustic rock, disco, country and western and folk music groups. Those included Billy Kemp and the Paradise Rockers, Disappear Fear and Root Boy Slim and Capitol Offense.

He had done recordings and played in clubs, concert halls and stadiums.

His marriage to Ann Glover ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Kastner Vigliotti of Charlottesville; a son from his first marriage, Christopher Vigliotti of Laurel; his parents, Anthony and Sumie Vigliotti of Laurel; two brothers, Vincent Vigliotti of Laurel and Raymond Vigliotti of North Babylon, N.Y.; and a sister, Annette Vigliotti.
