KINCAID
Velta O. Kincaid was born May 6, 1896 in Lucas County, Iowa to Mary Ann and Samuel Bingaman. She passed away Nov. 15, 2000 at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center.
Velta spent most of her life on the farm where she enjoyed her garden and flowers. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren. Velta attended country schools and spent one year at Highland Park College in Des Moines.
In 1915, she married John B. Kincaid and to this union four children were born: Vera Louise, Mary Ruth, Atha Fern and Virgil Burton.
Velta loved her church and was very active in church activities, including teaching Sunday School and working in the kitchen.
She is survived by two daughters, Vera (Orrie) Noah and Ruth Brogden, both of Chariton; one son, Virgil (Betty) Kincaid, of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Velta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Kincaid; daughter and son-in-law, Atha and Ken Crist; an infant sister; her sister, Eva Askren; her brother, Loren Bingaman; son-in-law, Glenn Brogden; and daughter-in-law, Maria Kincaid.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. Pastor Gary DeGeest officiated. Burial was in the Gosport Cemetery with John Noah, Doug Noah, Bud Schumann, Alan McGee and Benji Bingaman serving as bearers.
