Zaneta was a Kumu Hula, scholar, and teacher of traditional Hawaiian chants and dances. In 1983, she was recognized by the Living Treasures of Hawai'i program.

She was known as Zaneta Cambra during her time teaching at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It is unclear if this is a family name or a married surname. On her obituary, Zaneta H Richards is used. The Living Treasures of Hawai'i inducted her formally as Zaneta Ho'oululahui Cambra Richards.
