SCHERTZ, Texas -- Macon A. Sorling, 81, of Schertz, Texas, formerly of Springfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, at her residence.She was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Smithville, Tenn., the daughter of Herbert L. and Sally E. Taylor Atnip. Three husbands, E.W. Herman, Clyde A. Johnson, and Carl A. Sorling preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sorling was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women's Service Council and the Ruth Kalling Circle. She was a member of the Springfield Symphony Guild, life member and past board member of the Springfield Garden Club, a member of the Mental Health Association, Lawyers' Wives of Sangamon County, Springfield Art Association and the Springfield Ceramics and Crafts Club. She was a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center, Meals on Wheels and the Illinois State Museum.

Survivors: two daughters; two stepchildren; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Services: Central Baptist Church, the Rev. Vaughn Beeman and Jeff Chitwood officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
