Mrs.Hughes, was born Oct. 23, 1909, in Angelina County, Texas, to Flora Etta (Yarbrough) and Marion George Aldredge. She died Dec. 30, 2001, at Pinecrest Retirement Community, her home since 1993.

Mrs. Hughes was a longtime member of First Christian Church, joining the church in 1930, and marrying James Aubrey Hughes in the parsonage on Dec. 30, 1933. She served in various capacities in the Christian Women's Fellowship and Church Women United.

During her adult life, Mrs. Hughes served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, served on the Board of Directors of the community Concert Association, was a past president in the Child Guidance Club, the Twentieth Century Reading Club and the Lufkin Music Study Club. Later in life she became interested in her family's genealogy, and was a member of the Yarbrough National Genealogicl Historical Association.
