A native of Tyrone County, Ireland, settled in Burke County, N.C. after he came to America. He fought in the Revolutionary War. His membership was at New Hope Presbyterian Church in present Madison County, GA before he became a Charter Elder of Hebron Presbyterian Church when it was organized in 1796. He was a cousin of Samuel Mackie.
