Mrs. Alphonso Clayton
Mrs. Grace Mae Clayton, 84, of Manchester, a retired nurse who for many years worked at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, died Tuesday.
She was a native of Manchester, born Dec 5, 1888, the daughter of Frank and Lucinda (Kilburn) Lincoln. She received her education in the Manchester Public schools and was married there in 1910 to Alphonso H. Clayton who died in 1944.
She did extensive private nursing throughout Bennington County, and was a member of the Home Demonstration Group of Manchester. She was organist of the First Baptist Church of Manchester, and belonged to the Missionary Society.
Her survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Kay Gribbin of Englewood, Fla., and Mrs. Cleo Viarengo of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Edson of Bennington, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday afternoon at 2 at the First Baptist Church of Manchester, with the Rev. Richard D. Olmstead, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Factory Point Cemetery, Manchester.
Friends may call at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center Thursday evening from 7 to 9. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the organ fund of the Baptist Church.
