Edgar had his early schooling in Watson and Effingham county.In 1868 he entered the University of Illinois (then the Illinois Industrial University, IIU.) at Urbana, ILL. in 1871 he was sent by the Illinois National Guard as a Captain of his troop to Chicago, to assist in the big fire, which swept the city on Oct. 8-11, 1871. He earned a BS degree in the class of 1873 from IIU. In 1883 he and his family left Effingham county with four children for Travis county, TX
