Leroy C Dasher Hangs Self Claxton Jail Last Saturday

Glennville Radio Repairman found by Sheriff Rogers was being held in Evans County Jail on Forgery Charges Sheriff States

A Glennville radio repairman being held in the Evans County jail at Claxton on a forgery charge hung himself in his cell Saturday, Sheriff Candle Rogers states.

A coroner's jury ruled that Leroy C. Dasher,45,of Glennville "came to death by his own hands", Coroner R.D. Tillman stated. Sheriff Rogers said the one-legged man Dasher was arrested on the forgery charge Wednesday at that time, Dasher was under a bond on a disorderly conduct charge. Forfeiture of this bond was the reason Dasher was in jail until Saturday, Rogers pointed out. Dasher was last seen alive by the sheriff at 9 a.m. Saturday when the officer took the prisoner's breakfast into him, Coroner Tillman's testimony at the inquest revealed. The sheriff said he discovered the body when he returned with the prisoners lunch at 2 p.m. He immediately summoned two witnesses, Rogers said before removing the body.

Dasher was identified as the operator of a radio repair shop in Glennville.

Funeral services for Dasher were held at 3 p.m. Monday at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Glennville. Rev. Henry K. Erwin officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Tattnall County and a member of a prominent family.
