Luty farmed some, then for the next 15 years, he was the postmaster, following his uncle, Joseph P. Condo. He was janitor at the school and ran a grocery store for a while. Following his retirement in 1943, he, his wife, and son George, moved to Altamont, Effingham Co., Illinois, until his death.
Luty died in his home in Altamont, four weeks after suffering a paralytic stroke. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Altamont, with burial at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Moccasin, Illinois.
