"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 35, No 28, p 3, July 10, 1879.

In Alfred, N. Y., July 4th, 1879, Mrs. Almira Burdick, wife of Daniel Burdick, in the 43d year of her age.

On July 1st, Dr. H. T. Hanks, of the Woman's Hospital of New York, performed an operation for ovarian dropsy. As the operation progressed serious complications appeared, which at once showed the case a hopeless one, although the operation was performed in a skillful manner to its close. Had no operation been performed, the patient could have survived at most but a little time. Mrs. Burdick, from the beginning to the end, showed herself a person of great courage and self-control.

She was a worthy member of the First Seventh-day Baptist Church of Alfred, and was fully prepared in her mind for whatever might be the result of her sickness. As death approached, her trust in Christ as her Savior was unshaken, and her hope was indeed an anchor to her soul. After delivering her tender and dying messages to loved ones, she quietly fell asleep in Christ.
