U.S. Congressman. After completing law studies, he was admitted to the bar in 1832 and commenced to practice law in New Berlin, New York. He served as clerk of the Town of New Berlin, (1846-49). In 1849, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first through the Thirty-third Congresses, as an Opposition Party to the Thirty-fourth and as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. Unsuccessful for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 59.
