Betty Jean passed this morning before 12 o'clock pm; Wednesday, 15 Jun 2011. She will be buried at Forest Lawn West in Charlotte, NC beside her husband James "Jimmy" Payne.

Mrs. Payne, age 82, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Born January 6, 1929, in Pike County, MS.
She was a daughter of the late Johnny and Maybelle Jones Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James "Jimmy' Milton Payne; brother J.B. Smith, Jr. and sister Pauline Craig. (Also preceded her in death a niece Jennifer Miller.)
Surving are son, Mr. Payne and his wife of Asheville; two granddaughters, Mr. & Mrs. Eeds and 2nd granddaughter Miss Payne, three great-grandsons, Landon K, Isaac and Aaron; sisters, Ms. Gale of Charlotte, Mr. & Mrs. J. Evans of Mooresville, and Mrs. Miller of Hickory; brothers, Mr. & Mrs. Smith of Valdese, and Mr. Smith of Loris, SC. ~for privacy full names are not given~
Graveside service was held at 2 PM, Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC 28208
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Pulmonary Step-down Unit at Mission Hospital, Stonecreek Health and Rehabilitation, and Four Seasons Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made ot Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
She also left behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
I love & will miss you so very much aunt Betty Jean!! I know you are happy now to be with those who left us before we were ready to let go!
