Ralph Marshall Smith passed away at 11:20am after being airlifted then put in a medical induced coma.

He was the fifth of eight kids. And the first one to be born in NC after the family moved from MS.
He was a school bus driver while in high school. Enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) after leaving high school. After moving back to NC from CA he applied to become a NC Trooper. At that time they had a weight requirement so he became a License Examiner for the state of NC while waiting to be accepted as NCHSP.
After having a triple bypass in 1988 was assigned desk duty, then later retired. He missed working the road and retired from North Carolina State as a Trooper in Troop H from Charlotte, NC.

(I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to the family of NCSHP that help me. I'm not listing their names but they know who they are ~ from a Major, Retired Trooper, Retired License Examiner; who gave me my first license at 16, and to all the others in between ~ THANKS.)

No arrangements have been made as of yet.
