LAST HEARD CO. GRAY VETERAN DIES SUNDAY
SERVICES AT ELIM MONDAY FOR AGED MAN
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Elim Baptist church for Zachariah Taylor Estep, 90-year-old last surviving Heard county veteran of the War Between the States. Rev. L. S. Hunter officiated, and a group of Franklin Masons had charge of graveside ceremonies. J. U. McKoon and Son were in charge of arrangements.
Before his death, Mr. Estep was the only living Confederate veteran in Heard County. He was a life long member of the Baptist church, and an active Mason for many years.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. T. L. Vaughn, Franklin; Mrs. L. A. Coats, Pell City, Ala; Mrs. W. E. Smith, Tampa, Fla; and Miss Jessie [sic] Estep, Franklin: a son, G. O. Estep, of Turin; twenty grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren.

Son of William P and Sarah Estep.

Several siblings listed in 1850 census of Campbell County, Georgia include:

In addition to the children below, another known daughter, Martha S Estep, a twin of Mary E., was born Sep 28, 1870 and died Dec 21, 1870. Burial location unknown, probably Elim Baptist Church cemetery where her parents and other family members are buried or Enon Grove cemetery which was near the family home.
