Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Francis Smith, of Concord, North Carolina, were held at Zion Baptist Church, Wednesday afternoon, November 21, with Rev. P. C. Crider, pastor of the Zion Baptist Church, Rev. Ledell Phillipps and Rev. C. H. Stone of Concord Baptist Church officiating, assisted by Rev. Lawton Allen.
Mrs. Smith was born in Heard County and was 80 years old. She was a faithful member of the Baptist Church and took an active part in all church and community welfare. She was the widow of the late Rev. W. E. Smith, prominent Baptist Minister of Conyers. She died at the residence of her daughter Mrs. A. H. Bates Monday morning after a lingering illness.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Grady C. Smith, Concord, North Carolina; four daughters, Mrs. G. G. Holbrook, Moultrie; Mrs. W. P. Britton, Moultrie; Mrs. Arvin Freeman, Columbus and Mrs. Bates, at whose home she died; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Miss Jennie Estep, Franklin.
Interment was in East View Cemetery, Conyers with the following serving as pallbearers: Dewey Mitchell, Ralph Cofer, Stewart Hull, Ernest McCullough, Leon Piper and Dewey Burns. The Deacons of the church were honorary pallbearers.
Harry L. White Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
