Stephen Preston was the eldest son of Ederick and Annar (Winslow) Preston. He was born about 1836 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. His age was 15 in the 1850 census, 24 in 1860, 34 in 1870, 40 in 1880, 47 in 1885, 62 in 1900 and 73 in 1910. So you can see, even though census dates vary somewhat, this headstone birth year is absolutely an error. I do know that Stephen died in the soldier's home in York NE. It is possible no one there knew his exact birthdate.
