Ederick Preston (sometimes spelled Edrick) was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Clarissa Preston. He was the youngest in a family of ten children. He married Annar Winslow on 24 Mar 1836. Their first eight children were born in Bradford County. Then the family moved to Bureau County, Illinois, where their last four children were born.
In 1866, Ederick Preston and his son John were listed on the ledgers of the Eastlick mining company in Scott Valley, Siskiyou County, California. His daughter Sarah was married to Lafayette Eastlick and they had moved to California in 1863.
After Ederick's return to Illinois, he and Annar moved to LeSueur County, Minnesota. It is not known where Ederick died, but he was buried at Bowen Cemetery in Bureau County, Illinois (his son John's obituary states that "from the church the friends and neighbors accompanied the remains to Bowen cemetery where they were laid to rest beside those of his father"). Annar (Winslow) Preston was said to have died in Iowa, where she may have been staying with relatives.
