John Dardis, Sr. was born in 1783 in Ireland, probably in Columbkille, Swords, old County Dublin (now County Fingal). He married Mary Wade Dardis, and they had two sons, John Dardis, Jr. and Andrew Dardis. Fleeing the Potato Famine, the family settled in Madison County, New York where John, Sr. was a tanner by profession. He died at age 80 in 1863 in Madison County and is buried in Saint James Catholic Church in Cazenovia in Madison County.
