Atwood Ayres, age 88, of Owenton, passed from this earth in the early afternoon, September 28, 2009, at the Gallatin County Healthcare in Warsaw, KY from an extended illness. Atwood was born January 10, 1921 the son of A.W. and Allie Mae Martin Ayres. Preceding him in death were his mother and father, one brother Gerald Ayres, and two sons Carol David and Johnny Ayres. Atwood was a long standing member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Atwood leaves his wife of 68 years Myra Cooper Lawrence Ayres. His survivors are one son Donald (Sue) Ayres of Owenton, Four grand children, Jeff Ayres (Becky) Of Jonesville, Darrell Ayres of Lexington, Mike (Leigh) Ayres of Georgetown, and Brian (Lisa) Ayres of Louisville. Also surviving are Great grandchildren, Sarah, Mason, Peyton, Kyle, and Carson Ayres; One brother Carl Ayres of Cincinnati, Ohio; Daughter in laws, Barbara Lilly Ayres (Ron) Thredgill of Lexington, and Carol Ann Bush Ayres (Sam) Taylor of Owenton, and nieces and nephews. Pall bearers will be grandsons Jeff, Darrell, Mike, and Brian Ayres, and cousins Bob and Danny Nix. Honorary pall bearer will be his brother Carl Ayres.Visitation will be held from 4-8 Wednesday at Main Street. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2pm at main street.
