Lloyd Gross died January 29, 1974. His obituary notes:

Lloyd Gross rites Friday. Funeral services for Lloyd William Gross, Lead, have been set for Friday at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church with the Dr. Dwayne F. Knight officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Daniel Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church.
Gross died early Tuesday morning at the Homestake Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past few months.
He was born March 27, 1907 to Christopher and Donna Gross in Keewayden, Clearfield County, Pa., where he also attended schools. He was married in December of 1931 to the former Ethel Toms.
Gross began his work with the Homestake Mining Co. on June 6, 1929 in the mine department as timberman and mining contractor. During World War II he was transferred to the Wyodak Coal Co. On Nov. 11 he came back to the mechanical department of Homestake. When the company resumed underground operations on Jan. 9, 1945 he went back to the mine department until his retirement on June 30, 1966. His continuous service record is 37 years and 24 days. He was a Homestake veteran, joining on Feb. 14, 1950.
He was an avid sportsman, taking part in hunting, fishing, and trapping. Several times during his life he was hired by the sheepmen in the Badlands and Rochford area to hunt and trap bobcats as a protection for their livestock. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Woodmen of the World Fraternity.
Survivors are an only son, Robert Gross, Lead; two grandchildren; three brothers, Albert, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Wilbur, Erie, Pa. and Irvin of Clearfield County, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Rupp, Corfu, N.Y.; Mrs. Elvena Welch, Frenchville, Pa. and mrs. Velma Holiday, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.
