Margaret Elaine Turner Barber, daughter of Frederick Nevin and Ida M. (Bradshaw) Turner, was born September 29, 1939 in Sam Turner's home at Harper, Kansas.
After graduating from the Harper High School, she attended a commercial arts school and later a cashier checking school.
On October 28, 1958, Elaine, as she was known to family and friends, was united in marriage with Jimmie High in Wichita, Kansas and to this union five children were born, Richard Lee, Robert Dale, David Ray, Mary Anne and Cheryl Lynn. They lived in Wichita and Mulvane until the marriage ended.
Elaine married Eddie Barber June 2, 1984 in Norwich and to this union two children were added, Gregory Carl and Brian Scott. The family has made Harper their home for twenty-six years, with one year in Norwich, where Elaine managed the Norwich Friendship Meals.
Elaine was an active member of Eastside Church of Christ, the Harper County Genealogy Club, the Harper Art Guild and the Wichita Quilt Guild.
With her love of quilting, sewing, and card making she opened her own shop, Elaine's Machine Quilting and enjoyed creating many pieces for family and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her father; and one son, Richard Lee High in February of 2006.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Eddie Barber of the home in Harper; children: Robert High and his wife, Eva of Wichita, KS, David High, Harper, Gregory Barber and his wife, Rachel of Lewisville, TX, Brian Barber, San Antonio, TX, Mary Anne Clouse and her husband, Douglas of Canton, Ohio and Cheryl Wintermantel and her husband, Mikel of Allegany, New York; her mother, Ida Turner of Harper; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers: Dennis Turner and wife, Janet, Harper and Mark Turner and wife, Julie, Norwich, KS; other relatives and many friends.
