Confederate Veteran. Meriwether served in the 19th Georgia Cavalry Battalion which was organized in 1862. The 19th merged into the 10th Confederate Cavalry Regiment,( M226 roll 42). After the war, he became a merchant in Westport, Missouri.
This Meriwether lineage has been traceable to Meriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark Expedition fame. Corp David Meriwether is second cousin 3x removed of Meriwether Lewis. This lineage can also be traced back to the Jamestown Colony, 1652(Nicholas I Meriwether).

Parents were David and Matilda (Pearson) Meriwether, both from Monticello, Jasper, Georgia.
