She played an important part of the Naples Grape Fesitvals by collecting custumes for the parades and balls and decorating the store windows with old and unique items. Her kitchen had over 100 trivets on the walls. Her house was filled with antiques and after her death, a 2 day auction was held just to sell off her antiques. The main stairway to the upstairs was wall papered with 176 maps from around the world.
Ruby was famous for being a morale booster, She loved people and the community. The biggest thrill in her life came in one of the last grape festivals, when she rode atop a tractor, dressed as Mae West at age 71. She was a show stopper.
Ruby was a caring neighbor, visiting ill & infirmed persons, bring them meals, clothing and other items. Her medicinal remedies included the use of lard and whiskey for colds and other ailments.
There was plaque in her kitchen, prepared by Mr. & Mrs Richard Hunt, neighbors that read, " When the word 'neighbor' was defined, They must have had Ruby Fried in mind.
Ruby passed away from a heart attack while on vacation in Arizona.
Her house was purchased by Gary & Lynda Standish Fritz after her death.
According to Ed Yaw, relation to Ruby, she worked with the Indians, on their reservations in Arizona (she would winter there). She would walk to the reservation and one day a limosine stopped. She was offered a ride by presidential candidate, Barry Goldwater. Naturally, knowing Ruby, they became friends.
